2013 RECAP
On the year 2013, we focused our discussions on the context of foreign service, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the Foreign Service Examination (FSOE), the Foreign Service Officer (FSO), and the issues and concerns faced by a Foreign Service Officer. The history and context of the foreign service particularly R.A. 7157 served as our introduction for the discussion. We have also discussed about the five stages of the FSOE and a few tips to pass the examination were given. The discussion on being an FSO followed. We talked about the job of an FSO and the general information they must be knowledgeable about.
Before 2013 ended, we had a discussion regarding the concerns of an FSO and the global issues they would usually encounter. Among these are the problems of human trafficking, smuggling, sex tourism, and sex trafficking in the Philippines. The Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and how they promote the Philippine culture in other countries were also part of our discourse. When we took part in celebrating the 4th anniversary of the University of San Carlos American Corner and the Human Rights Week Culmination of that year, we have shared our knowledge and learning about these topics to the fourth years most especially since they will take the exam and these are of great help for them.
The topics discussed are significant in our study of International Relations and Foreign Service since there is a huge possibility that we are going to end up being foreign service officers after our studies. These are the basic topics that a student of this academic course must know in order to make the dream of becoming a foreign service officer come true.
