PHILIPPINE FOREIGN POLICY
analysis |
Superpowers' Current Philippine Foreign Policy Analysis: On this Analysis, we are using David's Explaining Third World Alignments. Since David has emphasized the balancing of power, we see these four spheres as the Challenges of the State Leader as the actor of the International Community. 1. Internal Threats- ex. Duterte’s War on Drugs, Human Rights Abuses 2. Domestic Challenges- consists of the challenges of the state such as how does the state leader addresses poverty, education and sustainability. 3. Decision Making- is A problem and a challenge as well because explaining PFP is like explaining that the deviations of the state leader does not in any way represent us. Hence, the third world state can be seen as vulnerable because of state decisions, especially in Foreign Policy, if not properly assessed. 4. International Community Interference- We added "community" because first of all, there's no such thing as International Government, and we are in a state of Anarchy. In this way, according to the Article, Third World Countries Leaders are understandably more aggressive than any other state leaders in their efforts to maintain position and to emphasize that states are sovereign. So instead of lashing back to Duterte (In regards to EU and UN Interference) there are some points that are painfully true, since he is a president of his own country, then it will be difficult for the International Community to interfere in the domestic affairs of the state. With the Balancing of Power, the Third World State Leaders align in ways that help them resist these challenges in the face of agreement and disagreement, the Nature of the Third World Countries since they’re not much powerful than Great Powers (that possessed greater Economic and Military Force), and thirdly, to understand the Third World Countries in their normative behavior. And Finally, the PFP revolves around the STATE LEADER. However, according to David himself, the citizens of the state in addressing issues, instead of the State Leader alone should be the main actors in decision making. grand strategy |
We emphasized our strategy firstly on domestic terms that the government should widen in its funding and powers to educate the youth and to ensure free media for everyone to be aware of the cirsumstances that has been revolving around the Philippines (domestic environment) and the International Community (that involves and acknowledges the Philippines as a member of ASEAN and UN).
Duterte’s Grand Foreign Policy focuses on achieving peace and mutual respect among other countries as well as gaining military and economic benefits. As part of his adaptation of an “independent foreign policy”, his current administration is making strides on gaining its way up in the international arena. His recent ventures on other ASEAN countries focuses on the agenda regarding the economy and mending broken ties with other troubled countries in the past. Furthermore, attracting investors also is another strategy which would also mean strengthening economic ties with fellow ASEAN member states. Lastly, strengthening of the military is another strategy in the Duterte administration with the agreements made with Russia regarding defense and security cooperation.
