The conflict of the four kingdoms shows us that there is no central higher authority that can enforce rules to individual states. The movie also depicts that the Encantadia is anarchic and made the Hathors to do that kind of act. Realism also believes in the three S’s which are statism, survival and self-help. These three depict the following 1) the state is sovereign; 2) survival is the national interest of a country and 3) self-help happens when the country funds for itself.
War has been a central feature. In Encantadia, the kingdoms are qualified to engaged in wars because they are developed societies. Wars require highly organized communities. (Baylis, Smith and Owens) as what we can see in the movie, their war is a brutal form of politics because it uses coercion to influence other kingdoms. And also, war is a powerful catalyst for change. The kingdom of Hathoria needs war and defeat the other kingdoms in order to change their status to make them the most powerful kingdom of all.
Security is a contested concept. The meaning of security has been broadened to include political, economic, societal, environmental and military aspects. In Encantadia, Lira depicts what was meant as trying to achieve International security as she was believed to be able to reunite the four kingdoms. While Hathor on the other hand depicts the desire for national security which is why they want to gather the other gemstones to gain more power. Wheeler and Booth explain what Lira is trying to do when they said that “Stable security can only be achieved by people and groups if they do not deprive others of it; this can be achieved if security is conceived as a process of emancipation.” While the Hathors lean more on Arnold Wolfers definition “Security, in any objective sense, measures the absence of threats to acquired values and in a subjective sense, the absence of fear that such values will be attacked.” It is evident that no matter what there are always those who seek power to be feared and secure. That we help ourselves and could care less of the outcome of the others which is a sad reality today that we see war as inevitable just because we want more power. Encantadia shows that power can break precious relationships.
