Advantages of a closer Russian- Philippines Relationship
Since the president took his seat as the president he has been on the spotlight for his controversies. One of those is his war on drugs which causes uproar locally and internationally because the case of extra judicial killings has been rampant. Adding to this issue is the sharp personality of the president calling names to Obama and Clinton, disregarding UN and EU are some of the controversial statements that the president has made.
In defending the President, I do like to believe that he is a different president. He has different personality, different ways of achieving his goals but in the end he only wants the good for the country. The president wanting to cut ties with US and tries to seek friendship with China and Russia, the president wants to get out of that dependency and tries to be independent and to reach out to countries that we haven’t reached out before.
A midst of all the controversies associated with the war on drugs. A lot of Filipino still supports the president and his ways of dealing drugs proof to this is in celebrating the 100 days of presidency the social weather station has release a satisfaction report that shows 76% of Filipino are satisfied with the performance of the president. Despite the many comments that International Organization has said about EJK a lot of organization are still willing to send help to reduce social issues such as poverty here in the Philippines.
This could be a proof that despite the personality of the President a lot of people has faith and in him, in fighting in the war on drugs and all the issues that he is facing. Soon, people will adapt to the personality of the President and it could be his trademark
Defense on President Rodrigo Roa Duterte
As the Chinese Ambassador, Zhao Jianhua said to the incoming president of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte is a ‘strong man of principle’ who clearly exhibits the type of leadership that the Chinese government would like to work with to improve the bilateral relations of China and the Philippines. This could bring a good start on uniting communist states for the betterment of the country’s future. By communist states, that also includes Russia. Russia has not been distant with our partnership as we have supported their objectives and responded to any meetings with other states. The president of the Philippines has his own ways of strengthening the foreign policies and relationship of other countries. As a matter of fact, President Duterte has good terms with the president of Russia. It is only right to respect and hear out his decisions that shows how passionate he is for our country’s future.
For the President’s action on the decision, Russia is a prospective partner. With Moscow’s growing interest in the vast Southeast Asia region, having the populist President Duterte in charge of the country could provide the opportunity for the intensification of Philippine-Russian relations, even more so if the newly elected officials decide to reconsider their nation’s role as the second “unsinkable aircraft carrier” of the U.S. in East Asia. The Philippines and Russia had bilateral relations for forty years and counting. At least the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov thinks that, ”The Philippines has a lot of potential as Russian’s partner in the Asian region.” We have been under the United States of America long enough that we tend to be dependent on their resources. We have sheltered our state with our long-term ally. It is time to rethink the country’s position at hand and be open-minded with the decisions and give support for the benefit of our country.
Advantages of a closer China- Philippines Relationship
The wise words of our not so diplomatic president, President Duterte would vocally speak up to his mind without censorship. The pure intentions of President Duterte can also be misinterpreted at times due to his artless statement. Due to his advocacy to eradicate drug syndicates and cartels, President Duterte would usually speak up to his heated mind and who would even care since he is the President of the Philippines. How else could you defend such act. Nevertheless, President Duterte is still trying to learn new ways on how to speak without putting out his pure intentions to harm. President Duterte a new phase of Philippine politics, is trying to redeem the Philippines back to its track again.
The statements and decision released by President Duterte always stirs the Philippine politics, the political behavior of President Duterte is a profound example of how he used to rule Davao City when he used to be Mayor however in a larger scope he is already not the mayor but instead the President of the Philippines. Every action President Duterte make can be misinterpreted especially that in just a click you can post anything or everything. Everyday is a new challenge for President Duterte he is bombarded with issues in the domestic and international level, the level of amount of pressure that President Duterte is facing everyday is very demanding and delicate. Furthermore, his own statement can be misinterpreted at some point President Duterte couldn’t properly express himself since he is not fluent in English however he is trying his best not to deliver faux pas statements.
There is always a room for improvement and maybe President Duterte is still in that phase where he is still trying to improve as the president of the Philippines, damage has been done but it doesn’t mean that we couldn’t fix things somehow Philippines remains to be diplomatic and peace at all time despite the international faux pas president Duterte has committed.
Defense on President Rodrigo Roa Duterte
In the national scale, the big chunk of the population is in favor of Duterte’s remarks as he show so much rigidness in his statements. It seems like many liked the idea of the President standing up for what he thinks is right. In the international arena, however, talking offense against another country is not very diplomatic. It’s hard to be an enemy to almost everyone just because the President feels like it. But knowing Duterte, his statements are either sarcasm or a joke when it comes to issues pertaining the country. He is an unpredictable leader and sometimes, we (the citizens) just get shocked the next morning after reading the newspapers’ headlines. Some analysts believe that Philippine leaders' remarks represent a long-present streak of anti-Americanism that is inseparable from his worldview -- a scenario that suggests this week's controversy will not be the last of the Duterte era. "The more optimistic read would be, it's still early days, this is a president who is just over two months into his presidency," said Parameswaran. "It will take a while for Duterte to find his footing on foreign policy, so the expectations for the relationship need to be dampened a little bit." It is true. Since the President has not directly been stating a clear foreign policy as of yet, it is best for us to tune in and wait for the results before actually making criticisms.
